Description

Esomeprazole 40 mg (Enteric Coated) + Itopride Hydrochloride 150 mg (Sustained Release) Capsules- The capsule is a dual-action combination used in the management of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. It is made up of two components, esomeprazole and itopride hydrochloride. Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that reduces excess stomach acid, and itopride hydrochloride is a prokinetic agent that improves gastric motility and speeds up stomach emptying.

Together, they treat both the root cause and the associated symptoms of conditions like GERD, acid reflux, bloating, and nausea. This also makes it a valid choice for the management of patients with associated acid and motility disorders. The drug has therefore been positioned as an anti-acidity and prokinetic capsule for the patients.

Abibba Pharma manufactures and supplies these tablets under the brand name Epigastro.  The company was established in 2014, and it develops all its products under WHO-GMP manufacturing. If you are an aspiring entrepreneur, the company also offers a highly reliable PCD Pharma franchise model with monopoly rights.

Mechanism of Esomeprazole and Itopride Capsules

Esomeprazole- It is an S-isomer of omeprazole that blocks the final step of gastric acid production. It irreversibly binds to the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme on the secretory surface of the stomach’s parietal cells.

The enteric-coated design ensures the capsule bypasses the acidic stomach without dissolving. This helps in releasing the medicine safely in the higher-pH environment of the intestine

Itopride Hydrochloride- It blocks dopamine D2 receptors and prevents dopamine from suppressing the release of acetylcholine. Itopride hydrochloride blocks the enzyme acetylcholinesterase and prevents the breakdown of acetylcholine.

The actions all work to release a large amount of acetylcholine into the GI tract, which increases GI muscle activity (peristalsis), increases GI transit speed, and inhibits retrograde movement of stomach content into the esophagus. Due to the extended-release formulation of itopride, its effect lasts for the whole day.

Benefits of Esomeprazole Itopride SR Capsules

The key benefits of these capsules include the following:

  • The combination medication provides dual-action relief; it both suppresses excess stomach acid and stimulates gut motility.
  • Itopride speeds up the movement of food through the stomach and intestines. This helps in relieving symptoms like bloating and nausea.
  • Esomeprazole blocks gastric acid pumps to treat heartburn and also allows the esophageal and gastric lining to heal from acid-related damage.
  • The SR formulation of Itopride allows a continuous release of medication all day. This gives prolonged relief.
  • It also protects against the formation and progression of peptic and gastric ulcers.

Indications

  • GERD
  • Functional Dyspepsia
  • Peptic Ulcers
  • Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome

Precautions for Gastrointestinal Disorder Treatment Capsules

For your safety and effective results of treatment, use this capsule in the prescribed way by your healthcare provider. Patients with liver disease, kidney problems, or other ongoing medical problems must consult with a doctor before using the medicine.

  • Do not drink alcohol, as it increases stomach acid and irritates the digestive tract.
  • Do not smoke; it worsens the reflux symptoms.
  • Itopride may cause dizziness or blurred vision in some individuals. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • Long-term use of esomeprazole may increase the risk of bone fractures in elderly individuals or people with nutrient deficiencies such as low magnesium or vitamin B12.
  • Consult your doctor before taking this medication if you have liver or kidney impairment, gastrointestinal bleeding, or a history of heart rhythm problems.
  •  It is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
  • Avoid heavy, spicy foods, caffeine, or light night meals.

Dosage and Administration

Taking the medicine at the prescribed time and in the correct dose helps achieve the best treatment results.

  • Take the medication at the same time every day to maintain a steady level of the drug in your system.
  • The standard course is usually 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the condition being treated
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double up to make up for a missed capsule

Who Should Use This

This medication is suitable for patients experiencing acid-related digestive problems such as GERD, acidity, heartburn, bloating, and delayed gastric emptying.

  • People who suffer from chronic acid reflux, heartburn, or stomach ulcers and do not find adequate relief from taking standard acid-suppressing drugs alone.
  • Individuals whose stomach muscles do not move food forward efficiently and, due to this, have to face feelings of fullness, early satiety, and nausea.
  • People who experience chronic indigestion, upper abdominal pain, and excessive gas that is not caused by a distinct physical ulcer.
